Character
The Flatcoated Retriever is a good family companion who prefers to stay close to people and is very friendly with children. But because of his enthusiastic character, especially the young dogs, it gives the idea that he is a bit too wild. This will come by when a Flatcoat is getting older. This doesn't mean that he will become as calm as a Golden- or Labrador Retriever. He always will, even at a high age, keep his enthusiastic character. Because of this character the Flatcoated Retriever has lot's of temperament and needs a lot of exercise and be raised and trained very consequently. Further the Flatcoat has an enormous passion for water and when he sees or smells water, he will thankfully use it. By working with the Flatcoat, there will become a strong relationship between owner and dog. You can do Obedience, Flyball or train him for Gundog work, it doesn't matter to a Flatcoat what kind of work it is. The point is that you must do something with a Flatcoated Retriever. |
